Weekly Update - 8/7/26

Hi there! Here’s this week’s Market Weekly update for you.

Mortgage rates kept shifting this week, driven in part by oil price swings and Middle Eastern tensions. The biggest move came after weaker-than-expected U.S. job growth and softer wage numbers, which nudged rates lower. Business activity data showed manufacturing and services still growing, but overall the mix of slowing economic data, persistent inflation, and global uncertainty means rates will likely stay choppy.

Looking ahead, focus will stay on the Middle East conflict and any peace talks, while Fed officials may hint at future policy. Key data next week includes Existing Home Sales on Tuesday, CPI on Wednesday, PPI on Thursday, and Retail Sales on Friday—each of which could shape how mortgage rates move.
