Weekly Update - 9/25/26

Hello! Hope you had a great week. Here’s this week’s Market Weekly with the latest updates on mortgage rates and what’s happening in the market.

It was a rough week for mortgage rates, with rates reaching their highest levels in more than two years. Long-term bond yields, which strongly influence mortgage rates, continue to move higher as investors remain concerned about inflation, rising oil prices, government spending, and heavy investment in artificial intelligence. The housing market is feeling the pressure as well, with existing-home sales falling to their lowest level since June 2025 and builder confidence dropping to its lowest point in a year.

Looking ahead, investors will continue watching the conflict in the Middle East and oil prices, along with comments from Fed officials about future interest-rate decisions. Several important economic reports could also impact mortgage rates next week. Personal Income and the PCE Price Index, the Fed’s preferred measure of inflation, come out Wednesday. The ISM manufacturing report follows Thursday. Then on Friday, the jobs report will provide a closer look at hiring, unemployment, and wage growth. Stronger-than-expected economic data could put upward pressure on mortgage rates, while weaker results could help rates move lower.
